Nine Pianos

Welcome to "Nine Pianos" is a new composition, written by Nicholas Paul Simpson and commissioned by Cambridgeshire Music in partnership with Cambridge Corn Exchange. It features 8 pianists at 8 pianos, each one playing a part with difficulty ranging from ABRSM Grades 1 to 8, along with an additional, harder "Narrator" part.

"Nine Pianos" is around 11 minutes in length and received its world premiere on 28 October 2014, at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge. The "Narrator" part was played by world-renowned concert pianist, Freddy Kempf, and the work was conducted by Jonathan James.

Freddy’s performance of "Nine Pianos" is available to download. Scores for the work and parts are available, "Performance Minus One" audio files are also available to download and practise against, and it is possible to stage your own performance using the numerous other resources provided by this website.
